Telluride Elementary School strives to develop the whole child by
providing exciting and challenging hands-on experiences. Our child-centered
philosophy empowers our students to approach learning with genuine
enthusiasm.
We
are committed to excellence. Our vision is to create a school where
each teacher and student will set personal and academic goals and
reach beyond them. As teachers our job is to facilitate growth,
our expectations high. We stress the importance of a strong partnership
between students, teachers, and parents.
We
believe students need to have a strong foundation in reading, writing,
and arithmetic. However, we also view "basic skills" to
be much more than communication and computation. Students must have
the abilities to think deeply, be problem solvers, work effectively
in groups, use technological tools, and see themselves as lifelong
learners.
Discipline
is viewed as growth from dependence to independence. Our students
are expected to develop a strong sense of character and values that
enable them to meet change with confidence and competence.
